Amber & Tor

This is the story of two good friends who met on the internet, wrote for 2 years, and then finally got to meet each other...

UNDER CONSTRUCTION

Ok, this will probably be easier if I'd start with all this from the beginning. We met sometime during the summer of 98. We were both pretty bored and decided to join an online Babylon 5 Role Playing Game. We were assigned to the same ship. I was Captain Lydell and he was First Officer Firefly :) I think that he was the first one of us to quit because frankly, that club was boring but we kept in touch and found out that we had more in common besides Babylon 5 being our favorite show. We like the same type of music, have the same opinions on pretty much every issue except for maybe gun control and I like jewelry and he doesn't... I can always help him change his opinion on that ;)-

As time went on we'd keep on writing. At least a letter a day and a lot of the time there would be more than one. We got to know each other pretty well and I could easily say that he became my best friend. He was just so easy to talk to and helped me get through the day. (I always looked forward to reading his letters and still do) I can honestly say that I'd be a different person if we never met because he was such a big part of my daily life. We even started going to voice chats and I even started calling him.

By then maybe a year had passed, he graduated from high school and I was starting my senior year. That's pretty much when I seriously started thinking of visiting him. I got a job baby-sitting my next door neighbor and saved up money. It wasn't quite enough and the pay wasn't quite enough so I got a job at the local Sonic. Within 3 months I had the money to go so I bought the tickets and arranged to stay with my mom's cousin who was nice enough to give me a ride over to Norway and stay for 4 days (and 5 nights). When I got to Sweden he called me and we talked for hours. I called him a bit too since it was so expensive. I had a great time talking to him. Just plain conversations as well as making plans for what we'd do.

DAY 1

Finally the day came to leave for Norway. I was in the greatest mood because I'd finally be th ere at the end of the day! It took us even longer to get there because we got lost in Lillestrom which is a suburb of Oslo. I won't ever forget that town. Lillestrom, it's like a maze! Some locals helped us get out of town. They said that they had a hard time finding their way and they live there (puts a perspective on the layout of the town). It was a long trip but we finally made it to Jevnaker (his town). He called us and gave us directions to his place which was pretty much across the road from the gas station we were at. We pulled around the corner and I saw him come out the door. At once I felt that I knew him so well. It was like old friends meeting who haven't seen each other for years except in this case we never met! ;) After that Inger, Tor, and I walked over to a Chinese Restaurant for dinner and then Tor and I went for a walk around the town.

Day 2

We checked out the glass factories right there in Jevnaker. I was really suprised when I got there to find out that they even existed. I was expecting some small "one horse" town. So after I got a good look at the factories we went back to the apartment and watch a few episodes of Babylon 5 and about half an episode of M*A*S*H. Jevnaker was getting a little old so we all took a drive up into Gjovik and went to the movies to see Gone in 60 Seconds (my second time to see it at the movies). And that was pretty much day 2.

Day 3

Destination Oslo- More to come!

Day 4...

was spent with Tor's family. I went over there fairly early and we went out to go go cart racing with his dad and little brother. I never drove a go cart before so it was an interesting experience. Plus there was the thrill of doing all this in Norway! I wasn't very good at it, that's what I'm really trying to say but it was still fun. Even if I scared the hell out of me when I started the spin (more embarassing than anything) but I got it back into control every time and drove more careful after that. Still it was a lot of fun. Tor really got into it. He's actually pretty damn good compaired to my racing "skills."
After we were finished with the go carts his dad wanted to show us a ride that is even faster. The summer bobsleds at Lillehammer! They went about 4.5g and were on the Olympic tracks, just that the sleds were on wheels instead of blades. I just loved the ride though I wasn't exactly prepared for the full force of it. I was in a slanted position that made it hard for me to keep my head up but I still got to see the ride (though Tor kept on telling his dad that I couldn't see for shit)! The Bobsleds weren't enough so we checked out the ski jump. We took the lift up and what a view we had! It was beautiful! The most exciting thing about that was seeing this guy actually ski down the thing. They had it set up with plastic and water so it could be used in the summer. I tried to get Tor to go down but he didn't want to risk anything, even if his dad and I offered him 2000 NOK. I guess that was the smart thing to do since it was a pretty steap jump ;)

Day 5

The fifth day wasn't a full day. More like just that morning before noon. It was very sad and hard because we had to say our good byes. We both had such a good time that it was strange to think about going back to the old way of emails. We're going to be friends forever.
